The beauty of electrolysis is that it is effective and guarantee results on all hair and skin types. If you are tan or have dark skin, if you have red, grey, white or blonde hairs, the solution is Electrolysis.

Methods

Three methods are used in electrology: Galvanic, thermolysis, and blend. All three methods have their own merits, and one method is not better than another. The success depends on the skill of the electrologist, the type of hair being removed, the condition of the skin and the pain threshold of the client.

Galvanic Method

This method is named after Luigi Galvani and uses a person’s body as an electrolytic cell. Galvanic electrolysis was first reported in medical literature in 1875 by ophthalmologist Charles Michel as a method for removing ingrown eyelashes. Galvanic was the first form of electrolysis and is not often performed currently. It has fallen out of favor because it takes a significantly longer time to work.

Thermolysis

Another method is known as thermolysis, also called radio frequency (RF), shortwave or diathermy. Thermolysis was developed in the 1920s and first reported in medical literature by Henri Bordier. Thermolysis works by heating the hair matrix cells to about 48 to 50 °C (118 to 122 °F), causing electrocoagulation. It is the most commonly used method because is very fast and effective.

Blend Method

The galvanic method and thermolysis are often combined in the blend method, developed by Arthur Hinkel in 1948, which uses combination of heat and current to speed up the galvanic chemical reaction to destroy the hair follicle. This method is slightly slower than thermolysis, but is very effective and often used to treat difficult areas.

Q&A

Electrolysis requires a series of treatments giving over a period of time. The length of time varies from person to person and is depended on many factors. The density and coarseness of the hair, as well the total area to be treated, are very important. The cause of the unwanted hair and the temporary methods of dealing with the hair in the past are also involved in the treatment time.

Whether there is any discomfort during electrolysis is quite variable depending on a patient’s tolerance, machine settings, modality used, as well as other factors. The electrologist is trained to work within the comfort tolerance of her/his patient.

Hair can be removed from almost any part of the body. Some common areas for women include the hairline, eyebrows, top of the nose, cheeks, upper and lower lip, chin, throat, neck, chest, breast, abdomen, arms, legs, bikini line, hands, feet and toes.

Men often have hair removed from hairline, chest, shoulders, eyebrows, back, neck, ears and nose. Electrolysis is very helpful for treating ingrown hairs which frequently cause irritation in the beard area.

Electrolysis has been performed for over 140 years and has been proved to be an extremely safe procedure. Electrolysis like any minor procedures, does have a short healing phase. During this time, there may be some redness or swelling and occasionally some scabbing.

Electrolysis can be performed in most moles where licensing regulations allow it. Your electrologist may require written approval from your physician.

Prices

Electrolysis pricing is based on time instead of body areas. It is hard to give price quote over the phone, since I need to see how much hair you have.

You are welcome to a free consultation, where I will explain how electrolysis works and give you a better estimates of treatment length and number of treatments you might need.
